In 2022, Carolyn a Fashion Design professional, established Pier 37 as an environmentally friendly fashion brand, creating sustainable and high-quality fashion for men, women and children that recovers and re-purposes textile waste..
Nestled in the heart of East Sussex countryside, Carolyn runs a fully equipped workshop, creating the brand’s unique, one-off singular creations that cannot and will not be replicated in mass batches. Pier 37 customers can enjoy exclusive one-of-a-kind hand crafted fashion items that no one else has!.
Using textile waste as the starting point, every unique creation follows the narratives "Not to use new" and "Working towards minimum waste", championing the Fashion Industry's move to a more responsible future in up-cycling and recycling.
Materials are sourced from charity shops, local dead stock suppliers, jumble sales and family and friends' throw-outs, identifying and collecting suitable waste material and pre-existing garments to make up the designs.
Collecting local surplus materials and other people’s waste means we don’t order in new materials and reduce the use of shipping transport that’s also impactful to our environment.
We would rather invest in local textile resources that have been previously discarded by others and add value back to these things that might otherwise have ended up in landfill.
To us, “waste” is not considered the end point of something but can be the beginning of something new and individual.
